K. Kenji Akamu

Kenji Akamu is a criminal defense attorney and named partner at Akamu Soon, LLLP in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is a member in good standing of the Hawaii State Bar Association and licensed to practice in all Courts in the State of Hawaii as well as in the US District Court, District of Hawaii.
Kenji earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and his juris doctorate from the William S. Richardson School of Law. After graduating, he clerked for the Honorable Judge Colleen K. Hirai, Chief Judge, Circuit Court, First Circuit, State of Hawaii.
From 2004-2016 Mr. Akamu worked as a Deputy Public Defender in Honolulu. He has extensive expertise in all aspects of criminal defense including appellate procedure, misdemeanor defense, and has 10+ years of felony jury trial experience. He has handled a variety of cases ranging from DUIs to sexual assault and murder.
Mr. Akamu is passionate about protecting the individual liberties of the accused and providing zealous and expert advocacy for his clients.

Kaupena F. Soon

Kaupena Soon is a criminal Defense Attorney and name partner at Akamu Soon, LLLP, located in Honolulu but practicing state wide. He is a member in good standing with the Hawai'i State Bar Association and licensed to practice in all courts in the State of Hawaii as well as the United States District Court, District of Hawai'i.
Mr. Soon served as a Deputy Public Defender in the Hawaii from 2011 to 2016. As a deputy public defender he assisted in defending all manner of criminal cases. Thousands of clients have been represented by Mr. Soon and he has taken numerous cases to trial.
Mr. Soon earned his Bachelor of Science in Facilities Management from Brigham Young University - Provo where he also was a member of the BYU Rugby team. He went on to receive his Juris Doctorate from the William S. Richardson School of Law, where he captained the Native American Moot Court Team and also received a CALI Award in Excellence in Federal Indian Law. After graduating Mr. Soon clerked for the Honorable Judge Greg K. Nakamura, Circuit Court of the Third Circuit.
Prior to attending law school Mr. Soon worked as both as a project manager and facilities manager and is experienced in federal contracts and vendor relations.
Mr. Soon is passionate about protecting the rights afforded under the constitution and diligently fights for his clients when the government has violated those rights.
